Ange Took the Hint, Ellen! Yay!

Back in February I posted that I had knit a summer top for Angela for her birthday but forgot to take pictures of it before I put it in the mail. Then I hinted to Angela that maybe she should take some pictures of herself in the top and send them along. Thankfully she took the hint and did that this week! Actually Blair was the photographer. They also send along a picture of Angela in a pink dress that I knit for her last year. Thanks Angela and Blair!

The dress is machine knit with Berlini Smile (cotton/acrylic blend) and the top is hand knit using Patons Silk Bamboo (silk/bamboo blend).

I have found some work for Ellen. She'll be back next post!

Would Blow the Wool Off a Sheep, Ellen!

That's how windy it was today when we were out! Beautiful day but Ellen didn't 'stand' a chance. We did take her with us just in case we found a nice sheltered spot, so she did get a day out, but had to do the modelling at home.

Ellen is modelling a cotton/acrylic machine knit dress with a crocheted belt and crocheted edgings. It's knit from Berlini Smile (50% cotton/50% acrylic). There's glass beads on the ends of the belt. The dress comes with a cover up that is machine knit (crocheted edgings) with Knit Picks Shimmer (70% baby Alpaca/30% silk). This is a lace weight yarn that knits up quickly and easily. When crocheting the tail of the cover up I intentionally added stitches to make it flare a little. It feels like a web.

Today we went to CBS for a quick run, then went Downtown St. John's. It was 5C but with the wind being high, it felt a lot colder. When I took the last picture in this post beside the Visitor Centre on Signal Hill Road, I had trouble holding the camera steady. Lots of people out and about though - even doing the Signal Hill Trail!

Field in Conception Bay South. Couldn't explore too much - kinda marshy.

Leaves are coming out early this year.

Beautiful sky.

Even St. John's Harbour was a little rough today.

Seagulls relaxing in an empty parking lot. The Xs in the photo is the chain link fence.

Sun on rope always catches my eye.

I like the name of this vessel.

That Ellen! What a Trooper!

All weekend we were in the midst of what the locals call "RDF", which stands for "Rain, Drizzle and Fog".  But, it's not like we didn't know we were going to get that kind of weather.  All week long we were checking the forecast with the hope that the weather icons would change to radiant sunshine for the weekend.  Didn't happen - RDF and 11 degrees C!  So, in anticipation of the poor weather I thought I would start the process of organizing my knitting room, books and stash.  On Friday, John bought me (and Ellen) a brand new bookcase and on Saturday he put it together.  Of course Ellen was right in the middle of the whole thing!  Will keep you posted on the progress of the organization.

Sunday we went to Brigus to visit my Mom and her husband Jim.  Ellen was dying to get out of the house and model a dress that I designed and machine knit a couple of months ago, but we couldn't get the chance to go for a photo shoot all week.  Seeing we were inside all day yesterday, we thought we should take Ellen with us to Brigus 'cause you never know - might be sunny out there!  Dinner at Mom and Jim's house was delicious, but still no sunshine.

After dinner we took Ellen to Captain Bartlett's Tunnel down by the ocean because we figured that location would offer some shelter so Ellen wouldn't fall over.  Good choice!  We brought Ellen through the Tunnel (dark!) and she finally had the opportunity to model the dress, right there by the ocean at the top of a cliff in the RDF!  She's a trooper, that Ellen!
